Welcome to Reception
The RSA Academy has identified key elements of each child’s education, to not only achieve academic success but also enable them to lead full and happy lives. These elements are knowledge, attributes of character, skills and experiences (known as KASE). In Reception, we support the development of these elements within the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. The children are supported in seeing themselves as ‘experts’ in all areas of their learning. In Reception, the development of children’s language and communication skills plays a significant role in all aspects of their well-being and academic achievement.
In Reception we promote a play-based curriculum which embraces children’s own desire for learning through natural curiosity, imagination and creativity. Children learn through a balance of child-initiated play and adult-led, focussed activities tailored to the needs of each child. Exciting and engaging activities are planned for both indoors and outside with the children’s own interests at the heart of their learning journey. Effective learning involves playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically. Activities are planned which support the development of these learning characteristics.
The children have access to indoor and outdoor learning environments every day including a new sheltered outdoor area with a bicycle track. They also participate in Forest School every week where they can experience new challenges in a safe environment.
